¡Hola amigos! 🤗
My journey to Mexico made me think about how wild dating is around the world. I’ve been to 30+ countries and still can’t help but be shocked at how similar and different we are at the same time.
This adventure was so spicy… sometimes quite literally.
But I successfully explored dating in Mexico as a foreigner and am now ready to share Mexican dating rules, peculiarities of the Mexican dating scene, and basically all you should know before starting dating a Mexican girl or Mexican guy.
¡Vamos!
Where to meet people in Mexico?
If you want a relationship with an attractive Mexican woman or man, you must be curious about where to find a date if you’re not living in Mexico.
Well, thanks to modern technologies and access to travel, you don’t have to be in Mexico to enjoy Mexican dating. Let’s explore 2 main ways to meet single Mexican people.
Online dating in Mexican culture
Mexican dating culture aligns perfectly with online dating, which has been ruling the dating world in all Western countries. Using different dating apps and sites has been a trend in Mexico for the last decade. Just take a look at these stats:
- The number of Mexican guys and girls using dating apps and sites is expected to grow to around 6 million by 2027.
- Young people (18–24 years old) are currently the dominant group online, and the runners-up are 35–44 years old.
Dating a Mexican online is effective and quite comfortable, as you:
- Have a wide choice of Mexican men or women to choose from
- Don’t pay for travel and date expenses before you’re sure you like the person
- Can connect with Mexican women and men who are on the same page in life
Also, American dating culture, as well as Latin America, is so used to online dating that it’s just a new norm. People not only meet online these days but also spend a large portion of their relationships online with all of that Instagram official jazz.
So, if you want to start dating a Mexican man or woman fast, don’t overlook niche dating sites, as, from my experience, they’re the best way to get a date, as so many Mexicans use them.
If you need recommendations for reliable platforms for Mexican dating, here are a few sites I personally tested and thought work best for singles from the United States and other Western countries.
Offline ways of Mexican dating
Oh, and if you are more into traditional ways of dating Mexicans, you can still travel to the country itself. With my love for travel, I can’t help but recommend visiting Mexico.
I’ve had such a great time exploring the wilds and indulging in tacos. And I probably had too many margaritas at one point. But that’s what Mexico is about—having fun and living your life to the fullest. But when it comes to searching for a date, you need to know where to look for a suitable Mexican woman or man.
I’ve got you covered!👇🏻😏
Casual dating
That’s probably the easiest date to find, as younger Mexican women and men are quite open-minded, and you can find a lot of NSA dates in local bars, nightclubs, and lounges.
However, keep in mind that casual dating is less common in Mexican dating culture due to Catholic values that have a big influence on Mexicans, especially in rural areas.
Serious relationship
That’s when things get harder. Long-term serious relationships are more common in the country, but most Mexicans meet either online or through mutual friends, which puts a foreigner in a less favorable position.
From my experience, Mexican women don’t mind going on dates, but they don’t take foreign guys too seriously, as most ladies believe that American women and men come to Mexico just to have a good time.
But if you still want to explore searching for a Mexican girlfriend or boyfriend offline with the intention of serious relationships, here are some top spots to consider:
- Small, not touristy coffee shops
- Book or music stores
- Local cultural places like galleries, museums, exhibitions, etc.
- Hobby clubs, gyms, sports areas
- Volunteering (especially international ones, as this way you’ll be less likely to have a language barrier)
These might help you meet single Mexican men or women. But if you asked me if going online or offline is better, I’d say a mix of both.
Big cities are full of singles who are family-oriented and open to international relationships. But it takes a lot of time and effort to find someone you like. It’s way easier to start a relationship at a distance, get to know each other, and then come to have a first date IRL and see if your strong connection online translates offline.
Philippe Berry recommends: Top locations to bring Mexican women on a first date
Dating in Mexico can be so fun, and I understand that you may want to wow your date with a 10/10 first date. But when you are in your home country, you already have a few cool spots down your sleeve, but being in Mexico, it’s easy just to get overwhelmed.
To help you have bomb first dates, I won’t gatekeep my top romantic dating spots where I would (and in some cases already have) bring my Mexican girlfriend.
📍 The trajineras of Xochimilco for a romantic gondola ride and enjoying the floating gardens of
📍 A hot-air balloon ride over Teotihuacán will wow any Mexican woman
📍 Organize your first date with a birds-eye view in Condesa DF’s rooftop terrace or Bellini—the world-famous rotating restaurant-bar
And my list can go on and on as all the big cities of the country I’ve been to have so many cool spots for a perfect date. I hope that my recommendations will wow your woman as well.
You’re welcome!😋
Tips for foreigners on how to navigate dating a Mexican
From what I saw and heard from single and married Mexican women and men, modern Mexican dating culture is not that different from Western one. People meet, date, go to the next level, and marry.
But the biggest difference between relationships in the country is the emphasis on family. With traditional gender roles and striving to build a good family, you’ll meet more respect, more family values, and more conservatism than in other cultures.
If you want to navigate the Mexican dating culture as a pro, here are some tips to follow ⬇️.
#1. Bringing flowers is a must for the first 3 months
Traditional Mexican dates involve a lot of romance. I’ve noticed such a trend among many Latino men and women. I blame telenovelas for all those expectations of grand romantic gestures 😂.
But that’s what Mexican women expect, and who am I to judge them?
Besides, flowers are not the only thing a Mexican woman will expect. Traditional gender roles also mean no splitting the bill in the restaurant and all of the similar things popular nowadays.
But you know I’m a traditional guy, so if I’m asking a girl out, I expect her only to enjoy the time together.
#2. Family’s opinion is a bigger deal than you might expect
Both the mother and the girl’s father will play a huge part in your relationship. Dating a Mexican is, in a way, dating her whole family, as family life is just entangled with everything.
So, don’t be surprised if you meet family early on.
That doesn’t mean that they expect to hear the wedding bells; they just want to be sure that you are an honorable person. Here are a few tips to become her parents’ favorite:
- If you speak English, get a Spanish teacher ASAP to learn a few phrases in Spanish. Most Mexican men and women over 60 don’t speak English. And you should agree that it’s hard to wow someone if you don’t speak the same language.
- Bring presents. You don’t need to spend a fortune, but small, meaningful gifts are a must, as coming to someone’s home empty-handed is minus many boyfriend points from the start.
- Adore her abuela’s or mother’s cooking. If you were lucky enough to have a meal with her parents and friends, shower the host with compliments on her delicious dishes. Mexicans take pride in their cuisine, and it’s really delicious.
I hope that with these tips, you will easily find a common language with Mexican parents.
#3. Public displays of affection are PG-13, but private…
If you walk the streets of Mexico City, you’ll see that most people are quite open to PDAs. But from my experience, many Mexicans are not going over the top in showing their relationship (for the most part). So, when it comes to kissing, making out, and all the fun stuff, keep an eye on the cues your Mexican woman gives you.
Oh, and no PDA in front of the parents. It should be even less than PG-13.
But when you stay in private, you’ll be able to enjoy all of the Mexican spices. Believe me!🙈🌶️😍
Conclusion
Like all good things, my stories about the Mexican culture of dating should also come to an end. I had an amazing time in Mexico and created so many great memories talking to people, going on dates, and just experiencing the country first-hand.
What can I say? Cultural differences are a thing in Mexican dating that can bring a wave of emotions, but you don’t need to be a professional captain to navigate this storm. Just pick a reliable dating site, and don’t overthink the process!
